At the beginning of the year, I set myself a goal to get better at cooking.
I know what you’re thinking, if I’m good at baking surely I must be good at cooking too right?! Well, actually… no. I suck at cooking.
I’m lazy. I’ll be honest about it- I get home from work, I can’t be bothered to cook properly so I’ll shove something in the oven and be done with it.
But, that doesn’t really help with my fitness & weight loss goals, because it’s unlikely that the stuff I shove in the oven is very healthy!
So, I decided to start getting better at cooking… and then kind of forgot about that goal until now, 7 months into the year. Whoops!
Then, a few weeks ago I decided that enough is enough and it’s time I finally started to learn to cook properly. And that’s when the idea for a new blog series came to me! Every time I try to cook a new meal and try to expand my cooking knowledge, I’m going to share it with you guys- whether it goes right or wrong! I’m hoping not only will it motivate me to stick with it but it also might help any of you who like me, suck at cooking!
So today’s post features my attempt at a super simple recipe- Salmon and Asparagus. I won’t share the recipe because it’s not mine, but it is linked so please do check it out!
I recently read a super interesting book about why the population is getting fatter and why so many of us struggle to lose weight. It didn’t really give any definitive answers but it did give a lot of food for thought (if you’ll pardon the pun) about what sort of things we could eat to help our bodies get healthier. Not just in a weight loss way but also to help the insides of our bodies.
One of the things he recommended after trialling it himself and testing his body in different ways, was to make sure you eat a piece of fish per week. He found that it helped his body a lot to introduce at least 1 piece of fish once a week. So, I’ve also been trialing a weekly piece of fish, although I’m a bit fussy when it comes to fish! I love salmon though, so I started to search salmon recipes.
I found this recipe and loved it because it was so simple- very few ingredients, wrap it in foil, cook for 20 minutes and bam, you’re done!
I was worried it wouldn’t be filling enough because it looks like it’s not very filling at all but actually, I couldn’t finish it all and I stayed full all night long. I don’t know how it’s so filling but it really is!
It was also really flavourful, I bought a piece of salmon that was already seasoned so it had some flavour, but that plus the lemon made it SO delicious.
This is definitely now on my recipe list for future dinners!
I actually found a really good food blog in this search too, Cooking Classy which is where this recipe came from, so definitely check it out!
I’m not sure how often I will do this series, it depends on how many times I try out new and different recipes but I’m hoping it will be a couple of times a month! If you know of any yummy recipes I should try, please link them in the comments below or tweet me @cakeydreamer!
