Recently, a new TGI Fridays restaurant has opened in Reading and Dan and I decided to go and try it out. We’d been to the other TGI Fridays in Reading, but as this one had opened in The Oracle shopping centre, it was in more of an ideal location.
Plus, Dan was working on our 1 year engagement anniversary so we decided we would celebrate 1 week early with dinner and cocktails!
One thing I loved about this TGI Friday’s was how different it felt to the other ones I’ve visited, it was a bit more “rock” and had posters on the walls from previous Reading Festival line ups; it just felt a bit more atmospheric. I’m not a huge “rocker” (you can tell because I just used the word rocker), but I liked the whole feel of the restaurant and the vibe it gave off.
Dan and I started off the evening with some yummy cocktails- he went for a passionfruit mojito and I went for a cosmopolitan. FYI, they don’t offer a passionfruit mojito on the menu but Dan asked if they would do it (he tried one once and now is obsessed with them) and they were happy to make it for him, which I thought was really nice, a lot of places wouldn’t bother if it wasn’t on the menu! Unfortunately, my cosmopolitan wasn’t as good- it just tasted really strong but I felt like all I could taste was alcohol rather than the flavours.
I don’t know the name of the girl who served us during our meal but she was SO friendly and really chatty. In fact, all of the staff were really friendly and happy to help at any time.
I had a cheeseburger without a bun (If you’ve read my other posts you’ll know that I’m following the FODMAP diet to help with my irritable bowel syndrome and yes I know I’m not supposed to eat cheese, SO SUE ME), to which our server enquired if I would mind letting her know why I asked for it without the bun, but she was really friendly when I explained that although I don’t have coeliacs disease, too much gluten upsets my tummy so I try to avoid it as much as I can. It was all great and Dan’s steak was cooked to perfection too.
I then had another cocktail, this time choosing a WooWoo (I wonder if I’ll ever be able to order that without feeling like an idiot?) and was asked if I wanted a large one. So I said yes because why not, we’re celebrating!
What I didn’t expect was that a large was HUGE. Like, I have tiny hands but my palm was smaller than the rim of the glass. I was a bit tipsy by the time I finished it, to say the least! But it was SO tasty and much better than my earlier cocktail!
So overall, we really enjoyed going to the new TGI Friday’s. It had a great atmosphere, I’d happily go there for a few drinks after work, the staff were super nice and the food was amazing. I’d definitely recommend it!
Have you been to a TGI restaurant before? What were your thoughts? Let me know!
