At the beginning of 2016, I set myself some fitness goals. Those goals were to consistently keep up with fitness and continue with my fitness journey from last year, be able to run a half marathon by the end of 2016 and to improve on my general fitness skills.
Do I feel like I’ve achieved those? Well… no. I’m definitely not any closer to running a half marathon, but does it matter?
Not really. Since March, I have lost 2 stone, I’ve taken small steps and made positive changes. Could I have done better? Of course, but at the same time, I’m not going to beat myself up over that because it won’t do me any good!
Lately, I’ve been trying to work a little bit harder on my fitness. Taking the stairs a lot more regularly, forcing myself to walk to the train station even though it’s cold/wet/windy/all of the above, going to the gym twice a week and I feel a lot better for it. My IBS symptoms lower when I’m exercising regularly, I feel better about myself and I can see a difference.
I’ve been taking photos of myself throughout my fitness journey and while I’m not going to share those, you can most definitely see a difference in the photos below!
It’s very easy to get caught up in what I still don’t like – I’m still not happy with my tummy, I’d still like smaller hips, I’d still like skinnier arms, but instead I should be happy with how far I’ve come so far. Good grief, look at how different my face looks!
So, here’s to continuing to work hard but remembering the achievements so far. Maybe next year I’ll finally run that half marathon, but for this year? I’m happy with my achievements so far.
